Freshwater Academy is a week-long camp that gives high school students the opportunity for hands-on experience and fieldwork in Northwestern Pennsylvania's waterways. Students spend their days studying biology and freshwater ecology at a level they can't achieve in the classroom. They will get wet, they will get dirty, and they will love it!

ELECTROFISHING
Today, we went above the Woodcock Creek Lake to examine the different species of fish live in the water. The divesity of fish are a good indicator to the health of the water. We looked at the variety of species by first giving a small electric shock through the water, then scooping up the fish in a net, and placing them in a bucket. Once we caught a good number of them, we examined ech fish and determined it's species. Then we let them go. No fish we injured, but some died. Oh well, that's Nature. : )

haha I like the last post. Someone give some details on what kinds of fish you caught. French Creek has some of the best darter variety in the United States, so its a good start for your electrofishing experiences.
Sounds exciting! Did any humans feel the shock?
We caught many types of fish in our electrofishing but only one type of darter, the rainbow darter. We actually electrofished in woodcock creek not French Creek. nobody got shocked although most people ended up rather wet.
LOL- no fish were injured, but some died..... I'd rather be injured. "Oh well, thats nature"..... not really... you were shocking them!!!! How about "all in the name of scientific research".....
